About Us
We stole our name from the hot chili peppers that jingle and rattle when shaken and we like to think we are making our own fair share of noise on the Upper East Side.
Call us what you will - a taquería that has a lot of fun making serious tacos, a sophisticated take on comida de la calle, or our favorite so far - "the best Mexican in the city" – we are a place that is excited about bold, bright and honest Mexican street food.
We are a counter-casual spot, which really just means order from the counter, feel free to ask lots of questions and to make lots of choices. Our menu is broken into five categories and is made for sharing. There is “Para Empezar” (starters), “Para Acompañar” (sides), “Tacos,” “Platos Grandes” (entrees) and “Dulce” (desserts). Pure, top-quality ingredients are the foundation for all dishes – think chorizo made in-house from heritage pork belly, all-natural hanger steak, blue crab, and Amish chicken. Cascabel tortillas themselves are out-of-the-ordinary: soft in texture and sophisticated and earthy in taste, having been made from nixtamal corn (dried corn, treated and softened in lime water).
A small place with a big menu, you can come back again and again for everything from a bite at the counter to a date that is easy on the wallet. We dare you to try our Salsa Diablo – we know it is one the hottest around - or to go bottoms up with one of our craft beers, Mexican brews or $6 glasses of wine.
